Woking Young Musician of the Year

Another great evening of music-making. We were treated to some thoroughly uplifting performances, not just from the competitors but also from the other award winners: James Cobb (Most Promising Young Singer); Darcy Watson (Most Promising Young Actor); Robert and Tansy Wood, accompanied by their mother, Melissa (Chamber Music); and Jamaal Kashim (Junior Musician of the Year).
The competitors all acquitted themselves brilliantly, but the adjudicator, Ian Jones, finally selected Angela Lau (piano) as the winner, won over by her apparently effortless technical mastery and musicality. Thomas Hammond (oboe) was runner-up and Helena Michels (piano) was awarded third place. We look forward to seeing and hearing more of all those who performed last night as they all showed great promise.
The winner of the Festival's summer school bursary was also announced: Elizabeth Knatt.
