The committee will obviously be keeping the situation under review, but is currently making plans for the festival to go ahead as normally as possible in November with the exception of Choral classes which will be held virtually. If circumstances change, we will post updates on the website and ask you to check it for developments and further information.
The Woking Music Festival runs for three to four weeks in November. The syllabus is published in early June and this year’s closing date for festival entries is 6th October.
We will be accepting entries in September.
The provisional dates for each section are listed on the syllabus page
Weekday sessions start in the late afternoon and adult classes may run on until 10.00pm. Weekend sessions run during the day.
Music classes, with the exception of Choral, will be held at St John’s Church, Church Rd, St John’s, Woking. GU21 7QN. Choral and orchestral classes will be held at Woking High School, Morton Rd, Woking. GU21 4TJ. Speech and drama sessions will be at Halstead St Andrew’s School (Church Hill House, Wilson Way, Woking, GU21 4QW).
To enter the festival go to the relevant section in the syllabus to find suitable classes. Fill in the Entry Form with your details, the classes(es) you want to enter and what you are planning to perform and submit it.
We regret that, once the programme is finalised, it is almost impossible to change the dates or times of classes.
Once you have submitted your entry, you will receive an acknowledgement email. The festival programme is planned after the closing date for entries. About two weeks before the beginning of the festival you will be sent notification of the times, dates and locations of your chosen classes. Until all the entries have been received, we cannot know how many there will be and so cannot give any specific information about when any particular class will take place.
We ask you to arrive at least ten minutes before the start of the class. Please allow time for parking. Remember, too, that you need to bring along a copy of the score/script for the adjudicator.
Please note that refreshments are not available at any of the venues.
You can enter the auditorium during a suitable break. At the start of your class you will be asked to take a seat at the front with the other performers and the announcer will call you up in turn. When everyone has performed the adjudicator will give a short comment and announce the winner in competitive classes. You will be given a certificate and comment sheet.
We look forward to seeing there!
