The committee will obviously be keeping the situation under review, but is currently making plans for the festival to go ahead as normally as possible in November. If circumstances change, we will post updates on the website and ask you to check it for developments and further information.
The Woking Music Festival runs for three to four weeks in November. The Syllabus is published in early June and this year’s closing date for festival entries is 3rd October.
We will be accepting entries in September.
The provisional dates for each section in 2021 are as follows:
Choral & Vocal – 5th, 12th & 18th November
Instrumental (incl composition) – 8th, 10th, 10th & 19th November
Piano – 6th, 15th, 17th, 21st & 22nd November
Speech & Drama – 13th & 20th November.
Weekday sessions start in the late afternoon and adult classes may run on until 10.00pm. Weekend sessions run during the day.
Most music classes will be held at Christ Church (Jubilee Square, Woking, GU21 6YG). One session, on 18th November, which will be mainly for choirs, will be held at St John’s Church, West Byfleet, KT14 6EH. Speech and drama sessions will be at St Andrew’s School (Church Hill House, Wilson Way, Woking, GU21 4QW).
To enter the festival go to the relevant section in the syllabus to find suitable classes. Fill in the Entry Form with your details, the classes(es) you want to enter and what you are planning to perform and submit it.
Please use the box provided on the entry form to let us know any other relevant information, e.g. access requirements, scheduling. We can then ensure that the maximum number of people can participate. We regret that, once the programme is finalised, it is almost impossible to change the dates or times of classes.
Once you have submitted your entry, you will receive an acknowledgement email. The festival programme is planned after the closing date for entries. About two weeks before the beginning of the festival you will be sent notification of the times, dates and locations of your chosen classes.
We ask you to arrive at least ten minutes before the start of the class. Please allow extra time for parking in the light of the developments taking place in Woking town centre.
You can enter the auditorium during a suitable break. At the start of your class you will be asked to take a seat at the front with the other performers and the announcer will call you up in turn. When everyone has performed the adjudicator will give a short comment and announce the winner in competitive classes. You will be given a certificate and comment sheet.
We look forward to seeing there!
